An American in Rome – Ep. 2
Scritto da Radio Bullets in data Luglio 22, 2026
When I came to Rome, I expected to fall in love with the food. However, what surprised me most was everything that surrounded it.
At first, working at an Italian pasta shop in Arkansas introduced me to authentic ingredients. However, living in Rome taught me that food is about much more than what’s on the plate. Instead, it’s about slowing down, gathering with family, and building community.
In this episode, I explore how Italy’s cuisine was shaped by centuries of migration, trade, and regional traditions. I also explain why coffee is treated as a daily ritual rather than simply a caffeine boost. In addition, I look at how certifications like DOP protect foods that have become powerful symbols of cultural identity.
Along the way, I discovered that every meal tells a story. After all, recipes are passed down through generations, traditions evolve over time, and regional identities continue to shape the way Italians eat today.
Ultimately, the more time I spend here, the more I realize that Italian food isn’t just a cuisine—it’s a reflection of history, identity, and the people who have shaped it.
